  Powder at the Key Club
by Alaina Fiorante

Much to the dedicated audience's growing anticipation, after patiently waiting four months to see Powder, lead vocalist Ninette Terhart entered the stage enclosed in black vinyl draped completely over her with a bug-like creature hanging above, walking on stilts, guiding the ensemble to the front of the stage.

This was only the first 5 minutes into what later became a spectacular show- a theatrical extravaganza. While overtly dedicated Powder fans know to expect something rather unusual and delightfully entertaining from them, the combination of the energy among audience and the band's performance made the whole experience feel like a New Year's Eve bash. The band formulated the stage show in constant entertainment with no break in their objective whatsoever-to entertain. In the middle of the set, two quasi-robotic Ninette clones appear on the stage dancing around, imitating her in a Sci Fi sort of way, adding more flavor to the musical feast. Powder awoke every lazy bone in my body during their one hour set with a massive surge of turbo rock crowned with a cool vocal resonance to soothe the rhythmic explosion in my chest. Hungry fans stretched their arms out desperately to catch the band's free CD and Powder paraphernalia giveaways, which they playfully ejected from the stage. The band finished the set with Ninette and two expert jump rope skippers powering the stage, completely owning the audience's awestruck attention.

And last but not least, ranking high as Powder fans most anticipated element (while overhearing pre-show conversations) is Ninette's wild costumes, designed by John Shea, which are tailored for each show and charade, sometimes a superhero, sometimes amazingly indescribable. The entire experience is supercharging and refreshingly unique.
